David Packard, geboren am 7. September 1912 und verstorben am 26. März 1996, war ein US-amerikanischer Unternehmer und Mitbegründer des Technologiekonzerns Hewlett-Packard (HP). 1939 gründete er gemeinsam mit Bill Hewlett HP in einer Garage mit einem Startkapital von 538 US-Dollar. Packard übernahm die Verwaltungsaufgaben, während Hewlett für die technischen Innovationen sorgte. Das Unternehmen wuchs schnell und wurde weltweit führend in der Herstellung von Test- und Messinstrumenten sowie Druckern und Personalcomputern.
Packard war von 1947 bis 1964 Präsident und von 1964 bis 1968 CEO von HP. Zwischen 1969 und 1971 war er stellvertretender Verteidigungsminister unter Präsident Nixon. Danach kehrte er zu HP zurück. 1964 gründete er mit seiner Frau die David and Lucile Packard Foundation, die sich für wohltätige Zwecke einsetzt.
Packard war maßgeblich am Bau des Monterey Bay Aquariums (1984) und des Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institutes (1987) beteiligt. 1995 erhielt er den Lifetime Achievement Award des Lemelson-MIT-Preises. Sein Sohn David W. Packard setzte das Erbe seines Vaters als Mäzen fort.
