Robert Duvall ist ein Schauspieler und Regisseur, der am 5. Januar 1931 in San Diego geboren wurde und am 15. Februar 2026 im Fauquier County, Virginia, verstarb. Duvall war der Sohn einer Amateurschauspielerin und eines Admirals und wuchs in einem militärischen Umfeld auf, was dazu führte, dass er viele Schulen besuchte. Nach seinem Abschluss diente er in der Armee, wo er bereits Theater spielte. Nach seiner Militärzeit nutzte Duvall die G. I. Bill, um Schauspiel in New York zu studieren. Dort teilte er sich mit Dustin Hoffman ein Apartment und hatte Gene Hackman und James Caan als Klassenkameraden. In den späten 1950er Jahren arbeitete er am Theater und am Broadway, bevor er 1962 sein Filmdebüt in "Wer die Nachtigall stört" gab. Er lebte damals mit Hackman und Hoffman in einer WG und alle drei wurden später wichtige Figuren der New-Hollywood-Bewegung. Viele seiner Filme wurden zu Klassikern, darunter "Der Pate", "Apocalypse Now" und "Der große Santini". Duvall wurde mehrfach für den Oscar nominiert, bevor er ihn 1984 für "Comeback der Liebe" gewann. Er war auch als Autor, Regisseur und Musiker tätig und inszenierte mehrere Filme, darunter "Apostel!". Bis 2022 spielte Duvall in über 140 Film- und Fernsehproduktionen mit. Er war viermal verheiratet und hatte keine Kinder. Politisch vertrat er rechtslibertäre und konservative Ansichten, distanzierte sich aber später von der Republikanischen Partei. Robert Duvall starb im Alter von 95 Jahren.
