Kid Rock ist ein US-amerikanischer Musiker, der am 17. Januar 1971 in Romeo, Michigan, USA, als Robert James Ritchie geboren wurde. Er entstammt einer wohlhabenden Familie, sein Vater war Automobilhändler. Früh zeigte er Interesse an der Hip-Hop-Kultur, insbesondere dem Breakdance, und ließ sich von den Beastie Boys beeinflussen. Seine musikalische Reise begann 1988 mit ersten Demos, die ihm die Möglichkeit eröffneten, als Vorband für Boogie Down Productions aufzutreten. Obwohl sein Debütalbum "Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast" zunächst veröffentlicht wurde, löste das Label nach einer Tournee den Vertrag auf. Kid Rock zog nach New York, wo er einen neuen Vertrag mit Continuum Records abschloss. Das Album "The Polyfuze Method" (1993) zeigte eine stärkere Rockbeeinflussung. Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Detroit im Jahr 1996 formierte sich die Band Twisted Brown Trucker um Kid Rock. Der Durchbruch erfolgte 1998 mit dem Album "Devil Without a Cause", besonders durch die Single "Bawitdaba". Das Album erhielt siebenfaches Platin und verkaufte sich mehr als elf Millionen Mal in den USA. Kid Rock hatte auch Erfolge im Country-Bereich, insbesondere mit der Single "Picture" (2002), einem Duett mit Sheryl Crow. Weitere Alben wie "The History of Rock" (2000) und "Cocky" (2001) waren ebenfalls erfolgreich. In Europa erlangte Kid Rock neben seiner Musikkarriere Bekanntheit durch seine Beziehung mit Pamela Anderson. Die Ehe hielt von Juli bis November 2006. Kid Rock hatte Gastauftritte in verschiedenen Film- und Fernsehproduktionen, darunter "Biker Boyz" und "Joe Dreck". Ein bemerkenswerter Erfolg gelang ihm 2008 in den deutschsprachigen Ländern mit dem Titel "All Summer Long" aus dem Album "Rock N Roll Jesus". Kid Rock ist Vater eines Sohnes und Großvater einer Enkelin. Er engagiert sich politisch für die Republikanische Partei und unterstützte Donald Trump bei der Präsidentschaftswahl 2016.
