Tom Selleck ist ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler, der am 29. Januar 1945 in Detroit, Michigan, geboren wurde. Er studierte zunächst mit einem Basketball-Stipendium an der University of Southern California und ließ sich anschließend an der Schauspielschule Beverly Hills Playhouse ausbilden. Nach kleineren Rollen in B-Movies gelang ihm 1980 mit der Fernsehserie "Magnum" der große Durchbruch. Acht Jahre lang verkörperte er den charmanten Privatdetektiv Thomas Magnum auf Hawaii – eine Rolle, die ihm weltweite Bekanntheit, einen Emmy, einen Golden Globe und den Ruf als Frauenschwarm einbrachte. Aufgrund vertraglicher Bindungen musste er jedoch einige Filmangebote ablehnen, darunter auch die Rolle des Indiana Jones. Trotz Erfolgen im Kino, wie in "Quigley der Australier", "Noch drei Männer, noch ein Baby" und "In & Out", blieb Selleck vor allem dem Fernsehen treu. So spielte er u.a. in "Friends", "Boston Legal", "Las Vegas" und ab 2010 in "Blue Bloods – Crime Scene New York". Auch als Produzent wirkte er, insbesondere bei der Krimireihe "Jesse Stone", in der er selbst die Hauptrolle übernahm. Tom Selleck ist seit 1987 in zweiter Ehe mit der Schauspielerin Jillie Mack verheiratet, mit der er eine Tochter hat. Das Paar lebt auf einer Avocado-Farm in Kalifornien.

San Diego, Calif. (July 23, 2004) – Journalist 1st Class Lisa Wassilieff interviews movie and television star Tom Selleck while visiting the San Diego Aircraft Museum (the former USS Midway (CV 41). Selleck was among the many guests attending a black tie gala aboard the former carrier to salute the arrival of the Navy’s newest Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) to her homeport in San Diego. The star of “Magnum P. I.”, “Quigley Down Under” and the bio-documentary, “Eisenhower” is a long-time friend of the Reagan family and was the celebrity master of ceremonies at the gala. The gala was hosted by the Santa Barbara Navy League and was attended by hundreds of political, business and celebrity dignitaries.
