Jake Bugg ist ein britischer Singer-Songwriter, der am 28. Februar 1994 in Nottingham geboren wurde. Er wuchs im Nottinghamer Stadtteil Clifton auf, der für Sozialbauten und eine abgebrannte Schule bekannt ist. Seine Eltern waren beide musikalisch interessiert und hatten in ihrer Jugend Plattenaufnahmen gemacht, konnten aber keine professionelle Karriere starten. Sie trennten sich, als Bugg noch jung war. Jake Bugg begann mit 12 Jahren Gitarre zu spielen, nachdem er von seinem Onkel ein paar Akkorde gelernt hatte, und spielte dann in der Band seines Cousins. Er nahm den Nachnamen seines Vaters als Künstlernamen an. 2011, im Alter von 17 Jahren, trat er beim Glastonbury Festival auf. Die BBC-Radiosender spielten einige seiner Lieder, und im August desselben Jahres unterschrieb Bugg einen Plattenvertrag bei Mercury Records. Im Jahr 2012 wurde sein Country-Song in einem Werbespot verwendet. Er trat in der BBC-Sendung "Later with Jools Holland" auf und seine Musik wurde während der Olympischen Spiele in London mehrmals gespielt. Seine Single "Lightning Bolt" wurde vor dem Finale des 100-Meter-Laufs der Männer als Hommage an Usain Bolt gespielt. Bugg war auch Support für die Stone Roses bei einem Überraschungsauftritt. Im Oktober 2012 erschien sein selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum, das die britischen Albumcharts anführte. Das Album wurde im September 2013 für den Mercury Music Prize nominiert. Seine Musik zeigt Einflüsse von verschiedenen Künstlern, darunter Oasis, The Beatles und Bob Dylan. Anfang 2013 wurde das Album auch außerhalb Großbritanniens veröffentlicht, gefolgt von Konzerten und Auftritten weltweit. Er tourte durch Europa, die USA, Japan, Australien und Neuseeland. In England wurde er für den BRIT Award als bester Newcomer nominiert. Im Sommer trat Bugg auf zahlreichen Festivals auf und spielte beim Glastonbury Festival vor tausenden Fans. Im Oktober gewann Bugg den Q Award als bester Newcomer. Während seiner Tourneen stellte Bugg neue Lieder vor, die er für sein zweites Album komponiert hatte. "Shangri La", sein zweites Album, wurde im November 2013 veröffentlicht.
