Gjorge Ivanov ist ein nordmazedonischer Politikwissenschaftler und Professor, der am 2. Mai 1960 in Valandovo geboren wurde. Ivanov verbrachte seine Jugend in dieser Stadt im Südosten Nordmazedoniens. An der Universität Skopje begann er sein Jurastudium, das er 1982 abschloss. Seine Karriere führte ihn zum nordmazedonischen Rundfunk, wo er von 1988 bis 1995 arbeitete. Parallel dazu schloss er 1994 seine Magisterarbeit ab. Ivanov setzte seine wissenschaftliche Laufbahn an der Universität Skopje fort, wo er 1998 promovierte. Danach wurde er Assistenzprofessor für Politische Theorie und Politische Philosophie. Später stieg er zum Associate Professor auf und wurde 2008 schließlich Fulltime Professor. Schon in jungen Jahren engagierte sich Ivanov politisch und war bis 1990 Mitglied der Jugendorganisation des Bundes der Kommunisten Jugoslawiens. Obwohl er nach der Gründung der Republik Mazedonien keiner Partei angehörte, stand er der VMRO-DPMNE nahe. Nach dem Wahlsieg der Partei im Jahr 2006 unterstützte Ivanov die Regierung als Berater. 2009 wurde er von der VMRO-DPMNE als Präsidentschaftskandidat nominiert und gewann die Wahl. 2014 wurde Ivanov im Amt bestätigt. Im April 2016 sorgte Ivanov für Kontroversen, als er Politiker begnadigte, gegen die wegen Korruption ermittelt wurde, was zu landesweiten Protesten führte. Nach zwei Amtszeiten konnte Ivanov nicht erneut kandidieren.
