Evander Holyfield (* 19. Oktober 1962 in Atmore, Alabama) ist ein ehemaliger US-amerikanischer Profiboxer und sowohl unumstrittener Schwergewichts- als auch Cruisergewichtsweltmeister. Er bekam im Laufe seiner Karriere den Spitznamen The Real Deal verliehen, was so viel wie Der einzig Wahre bedeutet. Er ist der einzige Boxer in der Geschichte, der viermal Weltmeister im Schwergewicht wurde (WBA-, WBC- und IBF-Titel 1990, WBA- und IBF-Titel 1993 und den WBA-Titel 1996 und 2000).
I had the honor of having 4-Time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion and legend Evander "The Real Deal" Holyfield in my wet plate studio today. He has had millions and millions of images taken of him over his storied career but never a wet plate. The five glass ambrotypes that I took of the Champ will last for a thousands years, something that cannot be said about any other image taken of him. I only had him with me for an hour and I tried to make the best of it. I was trying to capture the man, and only the man in an iconic way. He talked intimately about his philosophy of fighting and about his legacy. It was a true honor as a boxing fan to be given this opportunity.
