Martin Garrix ist ein niederländischer DJ und Musikproduzent, der am 14. Mai 1996 in Amstelveen geboren wurde. Bekannt unter seinem bürgerlichen Namen Martijn Gerard Garritsen, gelang ihm 2013 der internationale Durchbruch mit dem Song "Animals". Seitdem ist er in der Electro- und Dirty-House-Szene aktiv, tendiert aber seit 2015 zu melodischeren Electro-House- und Future-Bass-Varianten. Er tritt auch unter den Pseudonymen GRX, YTRAM und Area21 auf. Garrix begann im Alter von vier Jahren Gitarre zu spielen. Als Achtjähriger sah er Tiësto bei den Olympischen Spielen und beschloss, DJ zu werden. Er absolvierte die Herman Brood Academy, eine Schule für Musikproduktion. Um im Musikgeschäft Fuß zu fassen, produzierte Garrix einen Track als Ghost Producer, der von Spinnin’ Records veröffentlicht wurde und ein großer Erfolg wurde. Spinnin’ Records nahm ihn daraufhin unter Vertrag. Im September 2012 erschien seine Solo-Single "Keygen", gefolgt von "BFAM" mit Julian Jordan im November. Er produzierte auch Remixe für Christina Aguilera und Roy Gates. 2013 veröffentlichte Garrix mit Sidney Samson "Torrent" und mit Jay Hardway "Error 404". Kurz vor "Animals" erschien "Just Some Loops" mit TV Noise. Ende September folgte ein Remix von Sander van Doorn, Dimitri Vegas und Like Mike's "Project T". "Animals" wurde zu einem kommerziellen Erfolg und erreichte hohe Chartplatzierungen. Garrix wurde vorgeworfen, den Track nicht selbst produziert zu haben, woraufhin er in einem Video zeigte, wie er ihn gemacht hatte. Im Dezember 2013 folgte "Wizard" mit Jay Hardway, der ebenfalls in den Charts erfolgreich war. Im April 2013 startete Garrix seine Radioshow "The Martin Garrix Show". 2014 veröffentlichte Garrix "Helicopter" mit Firebeatz, konnte aber nicht an vorherige Erfolge anknüpfen. Er stellte "Proxy" als kostenlosen Download zur Verfügung und trat beim Ultra Music Festival auf, wo er neue Songs präsentierte. "Tremor" mit Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike erreichte Platz 1 der Beatport-Charts. Mit Sander van Doorn und DVBBS veröffentlichte Garrix "Gold Skies". Garrix wurde neben Tiësto in das Line-Up von "BBC Radio 1’s Residency" aufgenommen. Im August 2014 erschien "Turn Up The Speakers" mit Afrojack. Mitte September kündigten Garrix und MOTi ihren Track "Virus" an. Garrix landete auf Platz 4 der DJ Mag Top 100 DJs. Garrix begann 2015, sich musikalisch neu zu orientieren. Im Februar 2025 gab Garrix bekannt, dass er unter chronischem Tinnitus leidet.
