Joan Jett ist eine US-amerikanische Rocksängerin, Gitarristin, Schauspielerin und Musikproduzentin, die am 22. September 1958 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, als Joan Marie Larkin geboren wurde. Ihre Jugend verbrachte sie teilweise in Wheaton, Maryland, bevor sie mit ihrer Familie nach Hollywood zog. Ihre Karriere begann in den 1970er Jahren als Gitarristin, Sängerin und Songschreiberin der Hard-Rock-Band The Runaways, die ausschließlich aus Frauen bestand. Mit dem Song "Cherry Bomb" feierte die Band große Erfolge. Nach der Auflösung der Runaways im Jahr 1979 startete Jett ihre Solokarriere. Mit ihrer neuen Band, den Blackhearts, gelang ihr 1981 der Durchbruch mit einer Coverversion von "I Love Rock ’n’ Roll". Der Song hielt sich sieben Wochen lang auf Platz eins der US-Popcharts. Im Jahr 2006 gründete Jett zusammen mit Kenny Laguna die Plattenfirma Blackheart Records. Der Gitarrenhersteller Gibson brachte ein Signature-Modell ihrer E-Gitarre auf den Markt. 2015 wurde Jett mit den Blackhearts in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen. 2023 veröffentlichte sie die Single "If You're Blue" und die EP "Mindsets". Jett engagiert sich zudem für Tierrechte und lebt vegetarisch. Neben ihrer Musikkarriere war Jett auch als Schauspielerin tätig, unter anderem in dem Film "Light of Day – Im Lichte des Tages" und in Fernsehserien wie "Walker, Texas Ranger" und "Criminal Intent – Verbrechen im Visier". Die Geschichte der Runaways wurde 2010 unter dem Titel "The Runaways" verfilmt, in dem Kristen Stewart die Rolle von Jett übernahm. 2018 erschien die Dokumentation "Bad Reputation" über das Leben von Joan Jett.
