Joan Jett ist eine US-amerikanische Rocksängerin, Gitarristin, Schauspielerin und Musikproduzentin, die am 22. September 1958 in Philadelphia geboren wurde. Ihre Schulzeit verbrachte sie in Wheaton (Maryland), bevor sie mit ihrer Familie nach Hollywood zog. Bekannt wurde Jett in den 1970er-Jahren als Gitarristin, Sängerin und Songschreiberin der rein weiblich besetzten Hard-Rock-Band "The Runaways". Mit dem Song "Cherry Bomb" gelang der Band ein internationaler Erfolg. Nach deren Auflösung 1979 startete Jett eine Solokarriere und gründete die Band "The Blackhearts". Der weltweite Durchbruch folgte 1981 mit ihrer Coverversion von "I Love Rock ’n’ Roll", die mehrere Wochen die Spitze der US-Charts anführte. Neben ihrer Karriere als Musikerin engagierte sich Jett auch unternehmerisch. 2006 gründete sie zusammen mit Kenny Laguna das Label "Blackheart Records". Zudem würdigte der Gitarrenhersteller Gibson ihr Werk mit einem eigenen Signature-Modell. 2015 wurde sie gemeinsam mit den "Blackhearts" in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen. 2023 veröffentlichte Jett die Single "If You’re Blue" sowie die EP "Mindsets". Jett ist Vegetarierin und unterstützt die Tierschutzorganisation PETA.
