Edwin Moses ist ein ehemaliger Leichtathlet, der am 31. August 1955 in Dayton, Ohio geboren wurde. Er wurde vor allem durch seine Leistungen im 400-Meter-Hürdenlauf bekannt, einer Disziplin, die er in den 1970er- und 1980er-Jahren maßgeblich prägte. Moses wuchs in Dayton als zweiter von drei Söhnen auf. Seine Eltern waren beide Lehrer und sportlich aktiv. An der High School kam er erstmals mit Leichtathletik in Berührung, wechselte aber aufgrund von Rassenunruhen die Schule. Er interessierte sich für Musik, Kunst und Naturwissenschaften und studierte später Physik am Morehouse College in Atlanta. Erst kurz vor den Olympischen Spielen 1976 entwickelte er den Ehrgeiz, daran teilzunehmen. Er verbesserte seine Technik durch Anwendung physikalischer und biomechanischer Prinzipien und achtete auf seine Ernährung. Seinen ersten großen Erfolg feierte Moses 1976 bei den Florida Relays. Er trainierte fortan mit Leroy Walker und entwickelte einen einzigartigen Rhythmus zwischen den Hürden. Zwischen 1977 und 1987 blieb er in 122 Rennen ungeschlagen. Er gewann zwei olympische Goldmedaillen, 1976 in Montreal und 1984 in Los Angeles. Am Boykott der Olympischen Spiele 1980 in Moskau konnte Moses nicht teilnehmen. Zudem wurde er zweimal Weltmeister, 1983 in Helsinki und 1987 in Rom. Viermal stellte er einen neuen Weltrekord auf, zuletzt 1983 in Koblenz. Seine Siegesserie endete 1987 in Madrid. Bei den Olympischen Spielen 1988 in Seoul gewann er Bronze. Im selben Jahr beendete Moses seine Karriere. Er heiratete 1982, ließ sich aber 1991 scheiden. Später erwarb er einen Master in Betriebswirtschaftslehre und war auch als Bobfahrer aktiv. Nach seiner sportlichen Laufbahn engagierte sich Moses in verschiedenen Gremien für einen sauberen Sport und gegen Doping.
