Daniel Kaluuya ist ein britischer Schauspieler, der am 24. Februar 1989 in London, England, geboren wurde. Er stammt aus einer Familie ugandischer Einwanderer und besuchte später das St. Aloysius College in London. Seine ersten Schritte im Schauspielbereich machte Kaluuya in dem BBC-Drama "Shoot the Messenger". Einem breiteren Publikum wurde er durch seine Rolle als Kenneth in der britischen Fernsehserie "Skins – Hautnah" bekannt, wo er zum ursprünglichen Ensemble gehörte. Er übernahm auch Gastrollen in etablierten Serien wie "Silent Witness", "Doctor Who" und "Planet of the Dead". Im Jahr 2010 spielte Kaluuya die Hauptrolle in Roy Williams' "Sucker Punch" am Royal Court Theatre, wofür er Auszeichnungen erhielt. 2017 übernahm Kaluuya eine Hauptrolle in dem Horror-Thriller "Get Out" von Jordan Peele, die ihm eine Golden Globe- und Oscar-Nominierung einbrachte. Im Jahr darauf war er in dem Marvel-Superheldenfilm "Black Panther" als W’Kabi zu sehen. Einen weiteren Erfolg feierte Kaluuya 2021 mit seiner Darstellung des Bürgerrechtlers Fred Hampton in "Judas and the Black Messiah", die ihm sowohl einen Golden Globe als auch einen Oscar als bester Nebendarsteller einbrachte. Im Juni 2018 wurde Kaluuya Mitglied der Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
