Brian Molko ist ein Sänger, Gitarrist, Keyboarder und Texter, der am 10. Dezember 1972 in Brüssel, Belgien geboren wurde. Bekannt wurde er vor allem als Frontmann der Band Placebo. Molko wuchs in einer streng religiösen Familie auf, zu der neben seinem Vater, einem US-amerikanischen Bankier, seiner schottischstämmigen Mutter und seinem älteren Bruder Stuart gehörten. Aufgrund des Berufs seines Vaters zog die Familie häufig um, sodass er bereits in seiner Kindheit in verschiedenen Ländern lebte. Künstlerische Ambitionen wurden von seinen Eltern nicht unterstützt, stattdessen war für ihn eine Karriere im Bankwesen oder als Pfarrer vorgesehen. Molko rebellierte gegen diese Vorstellungen, indem er einen androgynen Stil entwickelte und sich öffentlich zu seiner Bisexualität bekannte. Während seiner Zeit an der American International School of Luxembourg hatte er kaum Kontakt zu Stefan Olsdal, seinem späteren Bandkollegen bei Placebo. Nach seinem Umzug nach London im Jahr 1990, um Schauspiel und Theater am Goldsmiths College zu studieren, traf Molko Olsdal zufällig an einer U-Bahn-Station. Er lud ihn zu einem Auftritt ein, woraufhin die beiden die Band Ashtray Heart gründeten, die später zu Placebo wurde. Bis 1996 traten sie zusammen mit dem Schlagzeuger Robert Schultzberg auf, der jedoch dann durch Steve Hewitt ersetzt wurde. Molko schloss sein Schauspielstudium erfolgreich ab. Im Jahr 2005 kam sein Sohn Cody zur Welt. Molko brachte sich das Gitarrespielen selbst bei, nachdem er mit 16 Jahren eine Gitarre von seinen Eltern geschenkt bekommen hatte. Neben der Gitarre beherrscht er auch Bass, Mundharmonika, Keyboard, Saxophon, Schlagzeug und Turntables. Gelegentlich arbeitet er als DJ in Clubs. Zusammen mit seinen Bandkollegen hatte Molko einen kleinen Auftritt in dem Film "Velvet Goldmine", für den Placebo das T.-Rex-Lied "20th Century Boy" neu interpretierten. Molko verkörperte darin Malcolm, den Sänger der fiktiven Glam-Rock-Band The Flaming Creatures. Molko zählte David Bowie zu seinem Freundeskreis und sang mit ihm das Placebo-Lied "Without You I’m Nothing" sowie den Cover-Song "20th Century Boy" live bei den BRIT Awards. Er ist außerdem mit Marilyn Manson und Nicola Sirkis befreundet und war als Gastsänger bei verschiedenen Titeln anderer Künstler beteiligt. Zudem komponierte er das Lied "Hypnotized by Jane" für Cinema Bizarre. Im Jahr 2010 sang Molko vor dem Europäischen Parlament in Brüssel. Neben Englisch spricht er fließend Französisch.
