Billy Ray Cyrus ist ein US-amerikanischer Country-Sänger und Schauspieler, der am 25. August 1961 in Flatwoods, Kentucky, geboren wurde. Seine musikalische Reise begann während seines Studiums am Georgetown College, wo er eine Gitarre erwarb und mit seinem Bruder die Band Sly Dog gründete. Nach einem Brand, der ihre Instrumente zerstörte, zog Cyrus nach Los Angeles, um seine Karriere voranzutreiben, kehrte aber nach Kentucky zurück, um von dort aus nach Nashville zu pendeln. Ein Plattenvertrag bei Mercury Records folgte im Sommer 1990. Sein Debütalbum "Some Gave All" und die Single "Achy Breaky Heart" im Jahr 1992 katapultierten ihn in die Charts, wobei der Song die US-Country-Charts anführte und auch international ein großer Erfolg war. Obwohl seine nachfolgenden Alben nicht ganz an diesen anfänglichen Erfolg anknüpfen konnten, verkauften sich Titel wie "It Won't Be the Last" und "Storm in the Heartland" noch ordentlich. Eine neue Popularitätswelle erlebte Billy Ray Cyrus ab 2006, als er an der Seite seiner Tochter Miley in der Disney-Serie "Hannah Montana" mitspielte. Diese erneute Bekanntheit führte zu wieder erfolgreicheren Albumveröffentlichungen bei Disney Records, die teilweise auch Duette mit Miley enthielten. Später gründete Cyrus die Rockband Brother Clyde und veröffentlichte weitere Soloalben.
