Anne Murray ist eine mehrfach mit dem Grammy ausgezeichnete kanadische Country-Sängerin, die am 20. Juni 1945 in Springhill, Nova Scotia geboren wurde. Murray wuchs mit vier Brüdern auf und war das einzige Mädchen in der Familie. Ihre musikalische Karriere begann in der Fernsehserie "Singalong Jubilee", während sie hauptberuflich als Sportlehrerin arbeitete. 1968 nahm Murray ihr erstes Album "What About Me" bei einem kleinen Label auf. Kurz darauf wurde Capitol Records auf sie aufmerksam und nahm sie 1969 unter Vertrag. Ihre erste Single bei dem neuen Label, "Snowbird", wurde direkt ein internationaler Erfolg und erreichte hohe Chartplatzierungen in Pop und Country. Es dauerte einige Jahre, bis Murray 1972 mit "Danny’s Song" erneut in die Top 10 kam. 1974 folgte mit "He Thinks I Still Care" ihr erster Nummer-eins-Hit in den Countrycharts. Für "Love Song" erhielt sie 1975 ihren ersten Grammy. 1975 heiratete Murray und bekam in den folgenden Jahren zwei Kinder: 1976 ihren Sohn William und 1979 ihre Tochter Dawn, die später selbst als Sängerin und Malerin unter dem Namen Dawn Langstroth bekannt wurde. Mit "You Needed Me" landete Murray 1978 einen weiteren Nummer-1-Hit, diesmal in den Pop-Charts. Es folgten weitere Hits bis Mitte der 1980er Jahre. 1989 wurde in ihrem Geburtsort Springhill das "Anne Murray Centre" eröffnet, ein Museum, das ihrer Karriere gewidmet ist. In den 1990er Jahren wurde Murray in die Canadian Music Hall of Fame aufgenommen. Ende der 90er feierte sie mit der CD "What a Wonderful World: 26 Inspirational Classics" ein Comeback in den USA. 2007 erschien das Album "Anne Murray Duets Friends & Legends", auf dem sie ihre größten Hits mit anderen bekannten Künstlern sang. 2009 kündigte Murray im Rahmen ihrer Autobiografie "All of Me" ihren Rückzug aus dem Showgeschäft an und schloss weitere Auftritte und Alben aus. 2010 durfte Anne Murray bei der Eröffnungsfeier der Olympischen Winterspiele in Vancouver die olympische Fahne tragen.
