Alice Merton ist eine deutsche Popmusikerin, die am 13. September 1993 in Frankfurt am Main geboren wurde. Als Kind zog sie mit ihrer deutsch-irischen Familie von New York nach Kanada und verbrachte ihre Kindheit in Oakville. Mit 13 Jahren kehrte sie nach Deutschland zurück, lernte Deutsch und lebte später in England, wo sie ihren Schulabschluss machte. Nach dem Schulabschluss begann Merton ein Wirtschaftsstudium in Augsburg, das sie nach drei Semestern abbrach. Sie wechselte zur Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in Mannheim, um dort ab 2013 Popmusikdesign zu studieren. In einem Interview nannte sie Irland, Kanada, Deutschland und Frankreich als ihre Wurzeln, da ihre Mutter zeitweise in Frankreich lebte. Erste Aufmerksamkeit erlangte Merton 2015 als Songwriterin und Sängerin auf dem Album "The Book of Nature". 2016 gewann sie den Bundesförderpreis Jugend kulturell. In Berlin gründete sie mit ihrem Manager ihr eigenes Label Paper Plane Records International und veröffentlichte Ende 2016 den Song "No Roots", der international erfolgreich wurde. Die gleichnamige EP folgte Anfang 2017. "No Roots" erreichte hohe Chartplatzierungen und wurde in der Werbung von Vodafone eingesetzt. Die Single wurde in Deutschland mit dreifach Gold ausgezeichnet. 2017 veröffentlichte Merton ihre zweite Single "Hit the Ground Running". Sie trat im Vorprogramm von Bosse und Philipp Poisel auf und spielte beim Life Ball in Wien und beim Lollapalooza Berlin. 2018 kam "No Roots" in die Billboard Hot 100. Im selben Jahr erschien ihre dritte Single "Lash Out". Im Duett mit Tom Odell sang sie "Half as Good as You". Ihr Debütalbum "Mint" erschien 2019 und erreichte Platz zwei der deutschen Albumcharts. 2019 war Merton Jurymitglied bei "The Voice of Germany" und gewann die Staffel als erster weiblicher Coach. 2021 veröffentlichte sie die Single "Vertigo", gefolgt von "Hero" und "Island" als Auskopplungen ihres zweiten Albums "S.I.D.E.S.", das 2022 erschien. Im selben Jahr tourte sie mit Bastille und gab eigene Konzerte in Europa. 2023 folgten die Singles "Waste My Life" und "Charlie Brown", 2024 "run away girl", "Heron" und "Sleigh Ride". Es folgte eine Headliner-Tournee in den USA und Auftritte auf Festivals. 2025 verklagte Merton Kanye West wegen unerlaubter Nutzung ihrer Musik. 2026 präsentierte Alice Merton ihre neue LP "Visions" in Frankfurt.
