Tommy Lee Jones ist ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler, der am 15. September 1946 in San Saba, Texas, geboren wurde. Jones wuchs in Texas auf, wo er in seiner Jugend mit seinem Vater in Ölfeldern arbeitete. Er besuchte die St. Mark’s School of Texas und später die Harvard University, wo er Anglistik studierte und Football spielte. Nach seinem Abschluss zog Jones nach New York und begann seine Schauspielkarriere am Theater und im Fernsehen. Er gab sein Broadway-Debüt in "A Patriot For Me" und hatte eine kleine Rolle in "Love Story". 1975 zog er nach Los Angeles und spielte in der Pilotsendung von "Charlie’s Angels". Seine erste Hauptrolle hatte er 1976 in "Vergewaltigt hinter Gittern". Der Durchbruch gelang Jones 1983 mit seiner Emmy-prämierten Darstellung in "The Executioner’s Song". Danach etablierte er sich als gefragter Schauspieler in Hollywood, insbesondere in Actionfilmen. Er spielte in Filmen wie "Auf der Flucht", für den er einen Oscar gewann, und "Men in Black". Jones übernahm sogar seine Nebenrolle als Deputy US Marshal Sam Gerard in "Auf der Jagd" erneut. 1995 gab Jones sein Regiedebüt mit dem Fernsehfilm "Einmal Cowboy, immer ein Cowboy". 2005 führte er Regie bei dem Kinofilm "Three Burials – Die drei Begräbnisse des Melquiades Estrada", für den er bei den Filmfestspielen von Cannes als bester Darsteller ausgezeichnet wurde. Später inszenierte Jones noch den Fernsehfilm "The Sunset Limited – Eine Frage des Glaubens" und den Kinofilm "The Homesman". Jones war dreimal verheiratet. Seine zweite Ehe mit Kimberlea Gayle Cloughley endete 1996. Aus dieser Ehe stammen zwei Kinder, darunter eine Tochter, die 2026 an einer Überdosis Kokain starb. Seit 2001 ist Tommy Lee Jones mit Dawn Maria Laurel verheiratet.
