Passenger ist ein britischer Singer-Songwriter, der am 17. Mai 1984 in Brighton geboren wurde. Schon als Kind lernte Michael Rosenberg, wie er bürgerlich heißt, Gitarre zu spielen und begann in seiner Jugend eigene Lieder zu schreiben. Bereits mit 16 Jahren stand er zum ersten Mal auf der Bühne. Ursprünglich war Passenger ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt von Rosenberg und dem Komponisten Andrew Phillips. Sie taten sich 2007 in Brighton zusammen und nahmen mit weiteren Musikern das Debütalbum "Wicked Man’s Rest" auf. Obwohl das Album keine Chartplatzierungen erreichte, erhielt es positive Kritiken und verhalf der Band zu Bekanntheit. Sie wurden als Vorprogramm von Künstlern wie Kate Nash und The Hold Steady engagiert. 2008 traten sie beim SXSW in den USA auf und schrieben die Musik für den Kurzfilm "Where Have I Been All Your Life?". Ein Jahr später beendete Rosenberg die Zusammenarbeit mit Phillips und veröffentlichte das Album "Wide Eyes Blind Love" alleine unter dem Namen Passenger. Er wechselte zu einem schlichten Singer-Songwriter-Gitarrensound mit Folk- und Indie-Pop-Elementen und tourte als Straßenmusiker durch Großbritannien und Australien. Im darauffolgenden Jahr nahm er gleich zwei Alben auf, eines davon in Zusammenarbeit mit australischen Musikern wie Kate Miller-Heidke, Boy & Bear und Matt Corby. Für sein nächstes Album setzte Passenger auf eine aufwändigere Produktion. "All the Little Lights" wurde im australischen Sydney aufgenommen und 2012 veröffentlicht. Zuerst erschien es in Australien, wo es Platz 9 der Albumcharts erreichte. Später wurde es auch in Europa und den USA veröffentlicht. Der Durchbruch gelang im Herbst desselben Jahres in den Niederlanden, wo sein Lied "Let Her Go" ein großer Hit wurde und Platz 1 erreichte. Das Album schaffte es in beiden Ländern in die Top Ten. Ende des Jahres ging Passenger mit Ed Sheeran auf internationale Tournee. Anfang 2013 erreichte "Let Her Go" auch in Schweden und Irland Platz eins. Auch in den deutschsprachigen Ländern erreichte der Song Platz 1 der Singlecharts und das Album die Top Ten der Albumcharts. In den USA konnte das Album die Billboard 200 erreichen. Gleichzeitig startete Rosenberg eine eigene Tour durch Europa und Australien. Im Jahr 2014 erschien Passengers Album "Whispers" mit der Single "Heart’s on Fire". 2016 folgte das Album "Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea" und 2017 "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". Anfang 2023 hatte Passenger etwa 12 Millionen monatliche Hörer bei Spotify. Er ist ein Fan des Fußballvereins Arsenal FC.
