Winfried Kretschmann ist ein deutscher Politiker (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), der am 17. Mai 1948 in Spaichingen geboren wurde. Aufgewachsen in Egesheim, geprägt durch die katholische Herkunft seiner Eltern aus dem Ermland, absolvierte er sein Abitur in Sigmaringen. Nach dem Grundwehrdienst studierte Kretschmann in Hohenheim Biologie und Chemie und engagierte sich währenddessen im AStA und zeitweise in einer kommunistischen Hochschulgruppe. Nach dem Studium arbeitete Kretschmann als Gymnasiallehrer für Biologie, Chemie und Ethik. Seine politische Laufbahn begann Ende der 1970er Jahre mit der Mitbegründung der Grünen in Baden-Württemberg. 1980 zog er erstmals in den Landtag ein und übernahm später den Fraktionsvorsitz. Nach einer Unterbrechung kehrte er 1988 ins Parlament zurück und engagierte sich in verschiedenen Ausschüssen. Im Jahr 2011 wurde Kretschmann zum Ministerpräsidenten von Baden-Württemberg gewählt, als erster Grüner in diesem Amt überhaupt. Er führte eine Koalition mit der SPD an und setzte sich für Themen wie Industrie 4.0 und Bürgerbeteiligung ein. 2016 gelang es ihm, die Grünen zur stärksten Kraft im Landtag zu machen, woraufhin er eine Koalition mit der CDU bildete. Kretschmann kandidierte 2021 erneut und wurde wiedergewählt, womit er seine dritte Amtszeit antrat und die grün-schwarze Koalition fortsetzte. 2024 kündigte Kretschmann an, bei der Landtagswahl 2026 nicht mehr zu kandidieren. Kretschmann ist der am längsten amtierende Ministerpräsident in der Geschichte Baden-Württembergs.
