Giorgio Moroder ist ein italienischer Musikproduzent und Komponist, der am 26. April 1940 in St. Ulrich in Gröden, Südtirol geboren wurde. Er gilt als einer der Pioniere der elektronischen Tanzmusik, vor allem durch seine Arbeit in den 1970er Jahren in München mit Donna Summer und Pete Bellotte. Gemeinsam entwickelten sie einen Euro-Disco-Sound, der stilprägend wurde. Moroder wurde in dieser Zeit auch als "High Priest of Disco" und "Dance-Music Godfather" bekannt. In den 1960ern begann Moroder seine musikalische Laufbahn und tourte mit Bands durch Europa. Er konzentrierte sich zunächst auf das Schreiben und Komponieren von Schlagermusik. 1968 zog er nach München und arbeitete als Produzent bei Ariola. Mit dem Song "Looky, Looky" feierte er 1969 erste Erfolge in Europa. Sein Interesse an elektronischer Musik führte dazu, dass er 1970 den ersten deutschsprachigen Hit mit einem Synthesizer produzierte. 1972 gelang ihm mit "Son of My Father", zusammen mit Pete Bellotte, ein größerer Erfolg. In München gründete Moroder die Musicland Studios, wo er ab Mitte der 1970er Jahre den Munich Sound entwickelte. Ab 1973 arbeitete Moroder mit Donna Summer zusammen und kreierte für sie den Eurodisco-Sound. Der Durchbruch kam 1976 mit "Love to Love You Baby". In den späten 1970er Jahren zog Moroder in die USA und begann, Filmmusik zu komponieren. Sein erster Soundtrack für "12 Uhr nachts – Midnight Express" brachte ihm einen Oscar ein. Er komponierte Musik für zahlreiche Hollywood-Filme wie "Top Gun", "Scarface" und "Flashdance". Zudem schrieb er offizielle Songs für die Olympischen Spiele und die Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft. Moroder arbeitete mit vielen bekannten Musikern zusammen und remixte Musik verschiedener Künstler. Seit 2012 ist Moroder auch als DJ aktiv.
