David Letterman ist ein ehemaliger Moderator, der am 12. April 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana geboren wurde. Sein ironischer Humor, beeinflusst von Größen wie Ernie Kovacs und Johnny Carson, prägte seine lange Karriere im Fernsehen. Letterman begann seine Laufbahn 1966 beim Studentenradio WBST, wo er aber wegen respektloser Bemerkungen über klassische Musik suspendiert wurde. Danach arbeitete er bei verschiedenen lokalen Sendern, unter anderem als Ansager und Wettermoderator, wobei er durch unberechenbares Verhalten auffiel, indem er beispielsweise das Wetter für fiktive Städte voraussagte oder einem Tropensturm zum Hurrikan gratulierte. Er moderierte auch eine Kindersendung und präsentierte Spätfilme, bei denen er schon mal ein Pappmodell des Sendergebäudes sprengte. 1971 war er als Boxengassen-Reporter beim Autorennen Indianapolis 500 zu sehen. Nach einem kurzen Ausflug zum Radio, wo er eine frühe Form der Nachrichten-Talkshow moderierte, zog Letterman 1975 nach Los Angeles. In Los Angeles startete Letterman als Stand-up-Comedian im The Comedy Store, wo er von Jimmy Walker entdeckt und als Gag-Schreiber engagiert wurde. Sein Talent fiel auch der Managementfirma Rollins-Joffe-Morra & Brezner auf, die ihn unter Vertrag nahm und ihn in diverse Fernsehsendungen vermittelte. 1978 durfte Letterman erstmals in der Tonight Show von Johnny Carson auftreten, was als Ritterschlag galt. Nach einigen gescheiterten Versuchen bekam Letterman 1980 seine eigene Comedy-Show im Morgenprogramm von NBC, die jedoch wegen schlechter Quoten eingestellt wurde. 1982 startete dann Late Night with David Letterman, die sich schnell zu einem Kult entwickelte. Letterman blieb elf Jahre bei NBC. Als Johnny Carson seinen Rücktritt ankündigte, wurde Letterman übergangen und Jay Leno wurde sein Nachfolger. Daraufhin wechselte Letterman 1993 zu CBS und startete dort die Late Show with David Letterman. Die Show konkurrierte mit Lenos Tonight Show, wobei Leno quotenmäßig meist die Nase vorn hatte. Letterman gründete seine eigene Produktionsfirma, Worldwide Pants Incorporated, die unter anderem Alle lieben Raymond produzierte. 2015 beendete Letterman seine Late Show und ging in den Ruhestand. Nach einer Pause kehrte Letterman 2018 mit der Talkshow "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman" auf Netflix zurück. Letterman war zweimal verheiratet und hat einen Sohn. Er wurde mehrfach für den Emmy nominiert und ausgezeichnet und erhielt zahlreiche weitere Preise, darunter den Kennedy-Preis und den Mark-Twain-Preis.

The 330th and the 338th Recruiting Squadron were able to tell the Air force story at the 92nd annual Indianapolis 500. The race was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The US Air Force recruiters were able to take a victory ride around the track in the opening pre-race activities. The Air Force was able to talk to the drivers and teams about what the Air Force does for this great nation. This was a great awareness event for the United States Air Force. There were more then a half million people in attendance.
