Boss Burns ist ein deutscher Sänger, Grafikdesigner und Gründungsmitglied, der am 28. Februar 1972 in Ost-Berlin geboren wurde. Völkel ist vor allem durch seine musikalische Arbeit in den Bereichen Country und Rock bekannt geworden. Seine musikalische Laufbahn begann 1995, als er der Heavy-Metal-Band Boon beitrat. Die Band, die bereits seit 1992 existierte, spielte im Vorprogramm bekannter Bands wie Rammstein und In Extremo. Boon löste sich allerdings im Jahr 2003 auf. Direkt im Anschluss, ab 2003, war Burns Sänger der Indie- und Alternative-Band Teheran Taxi. Mit dieser Band veröffentlichte er 2004 eine EP in Eigenregie, die er zusammen mit Sascha Vollmer produzierte. Teheran Taxi ist jedoch seit einiger Zeit nicht mehr aktiv. Im Jahr 2004 gründete Alec Völkel zusammen mit Sascha Vollmer und Michael Frick die Band The BossHoss in Berlin. Alle drei waren auch als Werbegrafiker tätig. The BossHoss unterschrieb Ende 2004 ihren ersten Major-Plattenvertrag bei Universal Music. Bei Live-Auftritten spielt Burns Rhythmusgitarre, wenn Vollmer das Stylophone bedient. Von 2011 bis 2013 war Völkel zusammen mit Vollmer Juror bei der Castingshow "The Voice of Germany". Neben seiner musikalischen Tätigkeit als Sänger und Waschbrettspieler ist Burns bei The BossHoss auch für das Grafikdesign der Alben zuständig. Im Dezember 2015 heiratete er Johanna Michels. Er hat insgesamt drei Kinder, eines davon aus einer früheren Beziehung. Im Herbst 2020 nahm er als "Alien" an der Sendung "The Masked Singer" teil und erreichte den zweiten Platz. Neben seiner Musik war Völkel auch in Filmen zu sehen. Er spielte 2017 in "Hanni & Nanni – Mehr als beste Freunde" und 2020 in "Børning 3: Asphalt Börning" mit.
